The USD Core Specification 1.0 is here. This is a foundational milestone toward making OpenUSD an international standard for 3D content interoperability.
What’s in Core Spec 1.0?
Core Spec 1.0 provides the first normative definition of OpenUSD’s foundational data models, composition algorithm, and value resolution system. It includes:
-
Grammar and data types
-
Document data model
-
Composition algorithm
-
Stage population & value resolution
-
File formats (USDA, USDC, USDZ)
-
Compliance framework
To validate compliance, the Working Group has released sample implementations for testing foundational data types, the document data model, USDA and USDC parsers, composition, and value clips.
What’s next: Roadmap to 1.1
Core Spec 1.1 is already planned for 2026, targeting:
-
Enhanced animation spline support (parity with OpenUSD v25.08+)
-
Variable expressions and path expressions
-
Refined compliance rubric
